Tips for Optimizing an Electric RV System?

Asked By R3n0wN1K On

I'm currently building a fully electric RV and I'm seeking advice on how to optimize the electrical system. I'm using a 10kWh battery to power my appliances, including Starlink for remote work, and a water heater. If you were designing your own RV, what tips would you share for maximizing efficiency and effectiveness? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend sticking with propane for your water heater and stove. You could even add a DC element to your water heater that you use for solar dumping when your batteries are full. I have a 14kWh Lifepo4 setup with 1800W of solar on my roof, and I've found I still run behind my charging needs on cloudy days. Also, consider a 12V compressor fridge; it's so much more efficient than a propane one!

If you're looking at your heating options, I'd suggest using propane for your water heater and cooking appliances instead of going all electric. It might save you some energy in the long run! By the way, which 10kWh battery are you using?

You might want to look into replacing your electric water heater with propane. I installed a 31kWh system and rely on propane for my fridge and hot water. It keeps things running smoothly!

Living off-grid in an RV, I'd suggest a propane on-demand water heater. It’s efficient and works great for my full-size fridge powered by a 3000W inverter. Make sure to use LED lights for low power consumption too!
