I'm tackling a small installation job, putting up some fake brick panels for my fireplace. I'm trying to decide whether to go with a brad nailer (18-gauge) or a finishing nailer (16-15 gauge). I'd rather buy a nail gun than rent one, but I'm also looking for other projects to make the purchase worthwhile. Both options seem to be around $299 for the Gen II 18-volt model. Any advice on which one would work better for this type of job?

If you're working with something like quarter-inch MDF, I'd suggest going for the 18-gauge brad nailer. Using it with some liquid nails should do the trick, just make sure to adjust the depth so it doesn't shoot through your material.

I'll need to look for the specific type of material I'm using, but it seems lightweight and has a lip like siding. Do you think that would still work well?
