Should I Accept a Painted Garage Door Instead of the One I Ordered?

Hey everyone! We're in the process of building a new house and opted to upgrade to a black garage door for an extra $2600. However, the builder actually installed a white door instead. Their solution is to just paint the white door black. I'm not sure if that's acceptable or if we should push to have the factory black door installed instead. What do you think?

Just to back up the first comment, make sure you have a professional inspection on your new house. It’s important! And yes, you should definitely insist on the black door instead of a paint job. There's really a noticeable difference in quality.

Also keep in mind that not all garage doors can be painted black effectively. Some materials can warp from heat, so make sure the door they install can handle it. You should really push for the black one from the factory.

Honestly, it sounds like the builder is trying to cut corners here. Painting that door will definitely cost less than $400, and a factory paint job is way better in terms of durability. If you paid $2600, they should definitely give you the proper black door, not just paint over the white one.

Exactly! I painted my door too, and while it held up for a while, it started needing touch-ups after some time. Don't let them take advantage of you!

You absolutely wanted a black garage door, so it’s really on the builder to fix this. Don’t settle for a white door that’s just painted. You deserve what you paid for!
