I recently bought a house built in 1965 and during the painting process, I've noticed some concerning issues. After patching and prepping the walls, I found that areas of the paint are peeling off easily, especially where I've made repairs. I did a test with an X and tape, and in some patches, the paint comes off with little effort. What's even stranger is that on some walls, the paint lifts off quite easily while on others, it doesn't budge. I'm worried this might spread to the other areas. Can someone help me understand what's going on and how I should fix this?

Sounds like you've got an adhesion issue. Did you prime the walls properly before painting? If the previous paint was oil-based and you used a water-based product on top, that could explain the peeling. As for fixing it, all the peeling paint needs to be removed. Keeping the area clean and ensuring you use the right primer for the surface is key. It might help to touch up areas later, but addressing the initial problem is crucial.

You mentioned using a primer, but it could be that the wall wasn’t prepped properly. Make sure there’s no grease or cleaning residue left on the surface—that can really affect adhesion.
