I've just got three photinia red robins to set up some privacy in my garden, but since I can't plant them in the ground, they'll need to stay in pots. The pots are 37cm wide at the bottom and will be placed on a layer of small pebbles. Since they'll be quite heavy, I'm trying to decide whether using saucers or feet is better, especially to prevent ants from nesting in the soil. What are your thoughts?

I've got both saucers and feet under my pots, but honestly, ants are going to do their thing no matter what you choose. I use traps for them when they start farming aphids, but otherwise, I just let them be. So if you're worried about ants, maybe think about those traps more than the base you're using for your pots.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I suspected ants wouldn't be easily deterred.

Can you tell me how you set up the feet? Are they sturdy enough for heavier pots?
