Connecting RV Solar to Your Home: Need Advice

Hey everyone! I'm looking to set up a big solar system on my RV for charging electric motorcycles and running AC during those hot southern Utah summers. My goal is to get this system to work even when I'm at home, so I wanted to know if anyone has experience connecting their RV solar setup to their grid-tied home system. I'm considering a couple of options—either building a cable to plug my RV into my home battery bank or using compatible inverters in both my home and RV that can sync up. What do you think? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, definitely be careful with feeding power back into a shared circuit. If too many devices pull from it, you could overload the circuit. I wouldn’t recommend back-feeding into general outlets unless it’s a dedicated setup you own. Using UL certified equipment can also help ensure that your system disconnects if something goes wrong. Just something to keep in mind when you plan this setup!

That sounds like a cool project! I'm excited to see what others say, but I wanted to chime in too. You might want to clarify if you're hoping to keep things running during a grid outage. I did a similar setup for a friend’s van with a Victron system. We enabled grid feed-in, so any excess power goes back when plugged in. Just be cautious about safety; it can be dangerous if the plugs are accessible to others. Definitely don’t want to create a situation where someone gets shocked. I've learned that keeping it safe and simple is key here!
