I'm situated in Dallas and I'm looking for advice on what kind of fabric to use under mulch to effectively prevent weeds. I recently laid down some mulch thinking it would kill off the grass underneath, but it turns out that wasn't the best approach. If anyone has recommendations on products or tips, I'd really appreciate it!

I wouldn’t rely on fabric for weed prevention. Weeds can still grow on top of it, plus it stops your mulch from breaking down and nourishing the soil. I’d suggest skipping the fabric altogether!
You could just spray the grass with some weed killer, but be careful! If there are other plants nearby, like lantanas, you might end up harming those too. Just keep that in mind before you proceed!
Cardboard actually works really well! I’ve got two raised beds lined with it and they've stayed completely weed-free for two years now. Honestly, fabric tends to fall apart and is tough to deal with once it starts disintegrating. Just my two cents!

Yeah, that’s exactly my concern! I don’t want to accidentally kill off my other plants while trying to tackle the weeds.
