Hey everyone! I'm trying to mount a 65" TV on the inside of a wall in my detached house, but I'm facing a bit of a challenge. When I started drilling pilot holes, I discovered that there's concrete behind the wooden studs. The screws that came with the mount are 2" long, but the wooden stud and drywall together only add up to 1.5" deep, which seems too short. After that, it's straight into concrete or masonry. Should I use the concrete anchors that came with the mount? Or is it better to drill directly into the concrete and rely on the 2" screws? Maybe I should just go ahead and use Tapcon concrete screws instead? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you've got furring strips instead of actual studs there, so it’s crucial to anchor directly into the concrete. Ideally, drill right through the furring strips to prevent any bending in the drywall when you tighten things down. If you find it’s concrete block, it’s generally not great to use Tapcon screws; go for expanding anchors made specifically for block instead. But honestly, I’ve used Tapcons in block with success, as long as they’re set properly and don’t spin in the hole!

Thanks for the tips! I’ve been having trouble finding studs with my current stud finder. Do you think there’s a chance there might not be any studs in this wall at all?
