Should I Be Worried About Missing Sill Plate and Flashing in My New Home?

Hey everyone! I just bought my first home about five days ago, and while doing some work in the crawl space, I noticed some concerning things. Specifically, there's no sill plate or mud sill on the outer ledge, and I also found that there isn't any flashing between the wood and the brick foundation. Since the house was built in 1993, I'm puzzled as to how it even passed inspection. Is this something I should be really worried about?

It’s a bit unusual not to have a sill plate or flashing, but before you panic, consider checking the inspection documents for any mentions of those features. Sometimes they can be reported differently or missed in the inspection process. If the house has been standing well since '93, it might not be as dire as it seems. Just keep an eye on any moisture issues down the line!

Yeah, I’d echo that! If everything seems structurally sound and there aren’t signs of water damage, it could be okay.

I agree, this is kind of strange. Typically, those features are pretty standard. However, if you’re not seeing any immediate structural issues, it might just be one of those things you keep in mind for the future. Maybe look into adding them if you start to notice problems later on?
