Can My Orchid Be Saved?

Asked By OrchidLover92 On

I'm worried about my orchid and not sure if it's still salvageable. It's been in the same pot since I got it from Walmart, and I've noticed some brown stems. A friend tried to help, but they aren't sure about orchids either. I read online, but Google hasn't been much help. How long are the stems supposed to stay brown when dormant? Any tips on caring for it?

You might want to cut back the brown stems, they can take a lot of energy to maintain. After trimming, it can focus on the healthy parts and hopefully flower again. And if you can, check out some orchid care videos online—they’re full of quick tips!

It sounds like your orchid might just need a little TLC! First off, check what's going on with the roots. If some look dried out and brown, you'll want to trim those off since they’re dead. But don't worry, you probably still have some healthy roots left. I'd recommend repotting it in orchid bark instead of regular soil—we want to promote airflow since orchids thrive in that kind of environment. Make sure the pot has drainage holes. Also, when you water it, soak the roots for about 10-15 minutes and then let them drain completely. Avoid using ice cubes; tropical plants don’t like the cold! Your plant should do better with plenty of sunlight too. Hang in there, you got this!

Totally agree! Just make sure you give it that good airflow and plenty of sun. It’ll perk right up in no time!

Honestly, just trim those dead parts and repot it in a bigger pot with some fresh bark. I've seen orchids come back from worse, so there’s a good chance yours will make it! Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'll definitely give it a try.
