Is This the Right Romex for Powering Standard Outlets?

I came across some Romex wire and I wanted to check if it's suitable for powering regular outlets. It's not in a wet area, so I don't need GFCI protection. I just want to plug in appliances like a sewing machine, iron, and task lights. I inherited a lot of this wire, and I'd prefer to use what I have instead of buying something else. Here's a link to a picture of the wire: https://imgur.com/gallery/right-outlets-BgMCYrb.

So, from what I see, the wire you have is a 10-gauge, rated for up to 30 amps. That’s definitely heavier than what you'd need for standard outlets, which usually handle 15 or 20 amps. Just make sure it’s got the right wiring components—10/2 would have black, white, and a bare copper ground, while 10/3 would include red too. If you saw a bare copper wire hidden away, that’s probably your ground.

You’re good to use it, but it’s more than necessary for those lower amperage outlets. Just be cautious about how many devices you plug in at once!

Thanks for clearing that up! I was a bit confused about the wiring colors. Glad to know it’s safe to use.

If you're on a tight budget, using it definitely won't hurt—just keep an eye on total load!

If it were me, I’d consider selling that wire and grabbing some 14/2 instead. It’s better suited for typical outlet usage and easier to work with for most home projects. Plus, it might cover your needs better without going overboard. Just a thought!
