How to Mount a TV on a Stud-Free Plaster Wall?

Hey everyone! I just moved into a new place and I'm trying to figure out how to mount a small TV (around 40 inches) on an articulating mount. The issue is that I've been unable to find any studs in the wall—I've tried using both a magnetic and a regular stud finder, but no luck. My roommates, who have lived here longer, told me about this problem, and it seems they were right. Since I'll be living here for only about two years and don't have space for a TV stand, I'm considering using two toggle bolts for the mount. I'm allowed to make reasonable modifications as per my landlord. Do you guys have any suggestions or tips for mounting my TV in this situation? Thanks!

I doubt your wall is completely stud-free. If there's an electrical outlet on the wall, it would typically be attached to a stud. What I’ve done before is install a wooden plate on the end studs along the wall and then use strong toggle bolts to secure the mount. It provides extra support!

Are you saying to put the plate in the corners of the room? That could actually look good with an articulating mount!

You might want to check if you can drill all the way through the wall and put in some braces on either end. If the TV isn't super heavy, that should hold. Just make sure it's secured well!
