Do Solar-Powered Stations Actually Work?

Lately, the power grid has been super unreliable here with flickering lights and frequent outages. I've come across ads for portable power stations that connect to solar panels, and the idea of harnessing sunlight for power really intrigues me. Has anyone had experience with these? How well do they actually perform?

From what I've seen and heard, solar power stations can be pretty effective, but you have to use them as intended. They work well within their limits, especially for smaller devices during outages, but don’t expect them to fully replace a generator. Just keep your expectations realistic about their capabilities.

I've got a setup using 860 watts of solar panels feeding into a Growatt Infinity 1300 power station. It powers my computer and fridge during the day, and I can even use it for things like a toaster later on. I've seen my electricity bill cut in half, but it’s not enough for bigger appliances. The power levels fluctuate, so using it whenever you can, not just during power cuts, will give you better returns.

In my experience, these stations are often overpriced and can feel more like toys than real solutions. They won’t prevent flickering lights or let you go completely off-grid; they’re really just for plugging in lights during a blackout. For the price, building your own system might get you better results.
