I've been trying to get some trim and siding repairs done on my home since early this year, but it's been a complete nightmare. One handyman completely ghosted me after saying he would help. Another guy did come by but did a shoddy job—he didn't even paint or caulk the end-grain on the boards he replaced, despite agreeing to it. I thought I found a replacement through a home repair business, but they texted me the day before they were supposed to show up, saying they had too much work and I'd be fine finding someone else. That company also ghosted me. I reached out to several others who never called back after I left voicemails or sent emails. I have someone scheduled to come Thursday, but honestly, I'm not optimistic. I get that things are hectic for contractors post-COVID, but why can't anyone show up for a quote? It's frustrating, especially since I had similar issues during my roof replacement. I went through several companies before finding one that wouldn't scam my insurance. Are contractors that busy that they won't even consider small jobs?

I've seen this scenario play out too! Many skilled tradespeople are great at their crafts but can be terrible at managing their business. It's funny how they moan about having no work come winter, yet they ignore all these smaller jobs when they’re busy. I decided to learn how to handle most things myself to avoid the hassle. Saves money and stress in the long run!
It's really frustrating, I get where you're coming from. A lot of contractors focus on bigger jobs because it's just more profitable for them. Why spend all that time on a small repair when they could be booking larger projects? It's all about opportunity cost. If they're busy, they might prioritize clients willing to pay more.

I hear you! I tried doing some of the siding work myself but quickly realized it's not my cup of tea. Some jobs are just better left to the pros!
