Hey everyone! I'm a new owner of a roofing company and I'm curious about the best way to measure roofs. Do you guys think it's worth using tools or drones for measurements, or is it still better to do it the old-fashioned way by hand? I'm not trying to sell anything here—just looking for some honest advice. Thanks in advance for your help!

I love that you’re asking this! The choice between drones and manual measuring really depends on your workflow. Drones can save a ton of time, especially on bigger roofs, but there's also something to be said for the hands-on approach. It gives you a real feel for the roof's quirks and you won’t have to worry about tech failing mid-job. It might be worth having a mix of both techniques in your toolkit!
A lot of roofers swear by using EagleView for estimating. Drones can definitely help with showing clients the roof's damage, but for actual measurements, it depends on the job. If you're doing big projects, drones are great for quick data, just keep in mind there’s a learning curve and FAA regulations to consider. But if you're more comfortable measuring by hand, that works too, especially for smaller, trickier roofs!
Honestly, Google Maps can give you a pretty good idea for distance measuring. It won’t account for the pitch, but it’s a decent quick reference if you’re in a pinch. Definitely try mixing both methods; combining traditional measuring with some tech might give you the best of both worlds!
