I'm in the middle of replacing my dishwasher and I have a quick question: how much space do I actually need behind it for ventilation? The model I'm going with is a KitchenAid KDFE204KPSS, which has a pretty hefty insulation blanket covering the back, top, and sides. This leaves me with almost no space between the dishwasher and the wall. Is that okay?

Generally, no extra space is needed behind dishwashers. They’re designed to work well in tight spots, and the insulation is just for sound and heat retention. If the manufacturer didn’t specify any special requirements, you’re safe to install it as you plan.
You’re all good! It's perfectly fine for the dishwasher to be snug against the wall. Just make sure there's no obstruction around the front so it can vent properly. That insulation is there mainly for noise control and keeping the heat in, so you shouldn’t have any issues by placing it that close.
Dishwashers are designed to vent out of the front, so having it backed up to the wall won't hurt anything. Just check the installation manual to be sure, but usually, they’re made to be enclosed like that. You’re on the right track!
