Can I Fill Cabinet Handle Holes Without Repainting the Whole Door?

Hey everyone! I'm curious if there's a way to fill in the holes left by cabinet handles without having to repaint the entire door or drawer front. I've previously used methods like dowels and bondo, but always ended up repainting the whole surface. Right now, I'm working on a project where I'd like to do just touch-ups instead. The new handles won't perfectly cover the old holes but will kind of mask them instead. Is it realistic to do this, or am I just asking for trouble?

It really depends on your standards for perfection! You might need to experiment a bit. Touching it up could work if you're okay with some imperfections showing. Just remember, how well it turns out depends on your skill level with this stuff.

I totally feel you; I'm in the same boat right now! I tried different filling options on scrap wood, and let's just say none were convincingly seamless. The drilled holes on particleboard make it tricky since they tend to bulge and create craters that are tough to fill. If you've got solid wood doors, that might give you better results!

That’s super helpful! How did you approach the sanding part? I'm worried about sanding too much and making the area larger. I’ve seen tips about using a card to protect the paint while sanding dowels flush. Do you think that could work for this too?
