What’s the Best Way to Level a Sloped Garden?

I'm trying to level out my garden, which is on a downhill slope. I was thinking that a mixture of topsoil and compost would work best for this, but I'm not really sure. Any advice or tips on how to do this correctly would be super helpful! Thank you!

Actually, instead of just adding more topsoil, you might want to strip the topsoil and level your subsoil first, then put the topsoil back. It can help create a more stable foundation.

You might want to consider getting something like economy soil for filling. Just save the quality topsoil for the top layer to keep the right nutrients in. Check this link for a good option!

Before raising the soil, have you thought about what you'll do at the lower end? If there’s a fence or wall, keep in mind that a lot of soil might put extra pressure on it. It's a good idea to plan that out first!

I had the same concern! We have a 30-degree slope, and ended up building three retaining walls to manage the levels safely.

I’m working on this right now! What I’ve found is that just eyeballing it while mixing topsoil and compost seems to be working for me, based on some light research. Just go slow and check your levels!
