I'm wondering if I can safely install an 8-inch circular saw blade in my 8-1/4-inch table saw. I understand it might not be as efficient, but I just want to know if it is safe to do so.

I actually use an 8-inch blade on my 8-1/4-inch table saw without any issues. Just make sure to pick the right type of blade for the job, like a ripping blade for long cuts and a cross-cutting blade for clean cross cuts. It should work fine as long as everything else fits correctly!
I’ve used smaller blades like a 6-inch dado stack on mine and it’s been great, so as long as it all fits as it should, you should be good!
From what I’ve seen, using a smaller blade on a table saw is usually okay. Just ensure it’s the right fit and properly secured. I haven’t had any direct experience with this, but you should be alright!
As long as the arbor fits correctly, using a smaller blade shouldn’t be a problem at all. Just keep an eye on the riving knife gap to make sure it’s not too big; you might need to adjust it.

Definitely check the arbor size as well! Your table saw's arbor should match the blade's size to ensure safety.
