How Can I Save My Father’s Sentimental Pothos Stem?

I'm really in need of some help with a special pothos stem. This plant has a lot of sentimental value because my dad brought it with him when he moved to our house 25 years ago, before I was born. Unfortunately, he overwatered it, leading to root rot, and ended up throwing it out. I only found out after it had been outside for a few days, but I managed to save this one stem. It's been in water for a month now, but I'm worried about its health. It has some root bulbs but no new root growth. The one leaf it shot up never unfurled, and it has some scarring from being outside. I would love any advice on how to help this little guy bounce back, as it feels like a piece of my family history that I need to keep alive.

It sounds like you're doing your best to save that pothos! Just a heads up, changing the water every day might not be the best for it. Pothos actually release a rooting hormone into the water that can help it grow roots. If you change the water too often, you might be getting rid of those helpful hormones. Try changing the water only when it looks murky. If you want to jumpstart its growth, consider using a gel rooting hormone—you can find those at most garden stores or online. Also, if you keep it in water for a while, you’ll eventually need to give it some water-soluble fertilizer to keep it healthy.

Thanks for the tip! I had no idea about the rooting hormone. I’ll definitely give that a shot—hopefully, it helps him out!
