Hey folks! I'm starting my journey into electronics and telecommunication engineering this fall, and I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I've recently graduated high school and I'm currently learning Arduino programming, with some projects lined up. We have a couple of older phones (like Xiaomi and Samsung models) lying around that are still functioning, but we're considering trading one in for a discount. My question is: will these old phones be useful for my studies in E&TC? I'm curious about whether I can learn from dismantling them or if there are valuable components that could aid my engineering projects. On a side note, I like keeping old tech—I've even got a 12-year-old Lenovo laptop still up and running! What do you all think? Are they treasures or just electronic waste?

Definitely keep those old phones! You can use them as control panels or even wall-mounted info displays. It's a fun way to experiment with their components and get hands-on experience beyond just textbooks. Plus, setting up an old phone as an information radiator could be an exciting project!

That’s an awesome idea! I’ve been trying to think of what to build myself, and ‘information radiators’ is the perfect concept to search for. Thanks for the inspiration!
