Help! Used Exterior Stain Indoors – Should I Be Worried?

I'm feeling super anxious about my first major home improvement project. About 8 months ago, I picked an exterior stain from Menards to match our new flooring and, trusting the employee, I stained my trim with it. I sealed everything with two coats of interior polyurethane. However, after speaking with another employee at a different Menards, I've been told that using exterior stain indoors can be problematic since it might fade or become toxic over time. I'm terrified that I've messed everything up and now I might have to redo all my work. Is it safe to keep it as is, or do I need to start over? I spent a lot of money on this project and just want to know what's the best course of action. The stain I used is Pittsburgh's Ultra Advanced Stain and Sealant, and I can share a picture if needed.

You’re totally fine! Seriously, don’t sweat it. Since you sealed it with two coats of interior poly, you don’t have anything to worry about. The concern around exterior stains is mainly about higher VOCs and fungicides, but with the poly on top, you should be safe. That woman just gave you some bad info!

Wow, that’s such a relief to hear! I’ve been stressing over possibly needing to redo everything, including the trim I just did on a new interior door. With the VOCs and all, should I still watch for any issues in the long run?
