I've noticed that my bathroom fan is taking 4-5 seconds to reach full speed after I turn it on. Once it gets going, it works fine, but if I turn it off and on again, it starts up right away. It seems to struggle a bit before kicking into gear. Given that the fan is old and in a hard-to-reach spot, I'm wondering if I can just replace the motor instead of the whole unit. Does this behavior indicate that the motor is on its way out?

Before you replace anything, consider cleaning it first! Dust build-up can cause fans to struggle. Try removing the cover and using a vacuum with a brush to clear out any debris. If you can get to the motor, a few sprays of WD40 can help loosen it up too. If that doesn’t work, look online for a replacement part.
