Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building a DIY cat tower that I want to resemble a real tree, with various hideaways and platforms. I'm trying to figure out which carpet materials are safe for cats, particularly whether nylon and polyester are toxic. I know that sisal and jute are safe, but there doesn't seem to be much info on the other materials. If anyone has experience with this or suggestions on what to use, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Also, any tips on how to wrap the carpet around the structure to make it look good would be appreciated!

I haven't heard of any carpet being toxic to cats either. Generally, what's bad for us is bad for them, so I doubt you'll find toxic materials in regular carpets at the store. But if you want peace of mind, always go for something labeled pet-friendly!
Honestly, just grab the cheapest carpet remnants you can find. I've spent a lot more on fancy materials, and my cats still prefer the cheapest options. Just glue them down to the wood instead of stapling for a better finish!
I've built a cat tower too, and we used some heavy-duty outdoor carpet that we found at Home Depot. It worked really well! Just a heads up though, the cats went wild on some wrapped posts we made, and it got torn up pretty quickly. So, I recommend using sisal rope on parts that are likely to see the most scratching to keep the carpet intact!

That's a great tip! I didn't think about using sisal where they scratch the most. I'll have to keep that in mind when I build mine!
