Are Plastic Pots Good for My Plants, or Should I Switch to Clay?

I'm finding that the prices for larger pots are pretty steep when I'm out shopping, and I've currently got my big plants in plastic pots. However, I'm a bit worried about how well these pots allow my plants to breathe. Is it better to invest in clay pots, or are my plants doing just fine in plastic? They seem healthy, but my soil looks pretty compact, which has me questioning things.

It really depends on the type of plant you have! Most plants do just fine in plastic pots as long as there’s good drainage and suitable soil. For instance, some succulents prefer terracotta but can thrive in plastic if you mix in plenty of perlite. Certain carnivorous plants are happier in plastic, as clay can leach minerals they don’t like.

Totally agree with the last point! I've got a bunch of plants in clear plastic pots so I can check out their roots and soil easily. Some plants get cover pots, while others go without. It’s all about what works for you and your plants!

Honestly, I’ll use almost anything to pot my plants! For my bigger ones, I stick to plastic because it’s cost-effective, lightweight, and super easy to manage drainage. I've never had issues with using plastic.
