I'm considering getting the Carbatec TH-BX330P 13" thicknesser for my shed, currently priced at 900 AUD. However, I also noticed the Dewalt DW733-XE selling for 400 AUD, though it comes with standard blades. As a hobbyist, I'm curious about others' experiences with these machines and whether there's a better value option out there.

Honestly, I'd suggest looking into the Dewalt DW735 with straight blades instead of the Carbatec. The 735 has been a go-to for a long time for a reason; it really brings quality to the table beyond just the cutter head. Also, I’ve heard great things about Grizzly’s new G0999, but it's quite pricey and may not be available in Australia.
Keep in mind the Dewalt 735 is around 1000 AUD right now. If you want the spiral head variant, it's going to cost you significantly more. Is it worth it for your first unit?
I've been using the DW733 with a Chinese helical cutter head and it's been working great for me! Given the option, I'd still choose the 735, but the DW733 has served me well and is budget-friendly.

I agree! For your first planer, don’t stress about getting a spiral cutterhead. Straight blades will do just fine, plus you can always upgrade later. The DW735 is a solid pick, and I've seen used ones go for under $400 USD.
