I recently bought some Schaaf Gauges and now that I'm checking them out, they seem like they all need reprofiling and sharpening. I'm not really experienced in sharpening tools; I can manage to sharpen and strop a bit, but this is a whole new challenge for me. Would getting a $50 grinding wheel from Harbor Freight be the right choice for fixing them up?

I'd steer clear of the Harbor Freight grinding wheel! Unless you're really skilled, it can be easy to ruin the tools instead of fixing them. Unless there are chips or major damage on the edges, they probably just need a medium stone for touch-ups, not a full reprofiling.
It's surprising that your gauges need reprofiling! I've purchased many Schaaf tools, and they've all come perfectly sharp. Are yours secondhand or something?

I meant to say Schaaf, not Pfeil—sorry for the mix-up! They definitely looked rougher than I expected. Never had issues like this before.
