Belt Drive vs Chain Drive Garage Door: What’s the Better Choice?

I'm in the process of installing a new garage door and received quotes for two types: a belt drive and a chain drive from Lifemaster. The belt drive comes with several features like being ultra quiet, having LED lighting, battery backup, and even an in-garage camera, but it costs $200 more than the chain drive. As someone new to homeownership, I'm trying to figure out if the extra cost for the belt drive is worth it. Any advice? Thanks!

From what I've heard, the belt drive is definitely quieter than a chain drive. The extra features like the camera and LED lighting seem nice, but keep in mind that they might just be marketing ploys to justify the price difference. If the noise level is a concern for you, I’d say go for the belt drive. Just make sure you check out different models to see your options since they don’t install themselves!

Yeah, the belt drive is known to be way quieter compared to chain drives. Plus, it does tend to last longer if you maintain it properly. If you want something that won’t wake the whole neighborhood when you leave for work, go for the belt!

Does it generally last longer? I'd love to not have to replace it anytime soon.
