Best Methods for Killing Weeds Before Replanting Wildflowers?

Hey everyone! I just wrapped up a big project on my property where I graded about 8 acres of hilly land myself over the last two years. To prevent erosion, I let some weeds grow in the steep areas. Now, I'm looking to replant these spots with perennial wildflowers to make maintenance easier, but I'm struggling to eliminate the weeds. I tried weedwhacking and covering an area with heavy black plastic for a month this spring, hoping to kill the weeds. Unfortunately, after I spread wildflower seeds (covered with straw), the weeds came back even faster than the flowers! I'm not keen on hand weeding, using landscape cloth, or mulching 30 yards every spring. Anyone have effective strategies for killing off weeds in this scenario?

Honestly, anything that effectively kills weeds will likely impact your wildflowers as well since, let’s be real, weeds are just wildflowers that some people don’t like. Your best bet might be to hand weed or start over, but restarting might lead to the same weed issue. So yeah, hand weeding might be your best option here.

Why not enlist a kid to do the hand weeding for some allowance? Just get them some of the plants you want to establish first and then hand weed around them as they grow. Might save you a lot of time and effort!

Haha, that might actually be cheaper than hiring a pro for such a big job!
