I just invested a lot in some oak sleepers for my raised flower beds, but it seems like the birds are really drawn to them. My garden's not big enough for a scarecrow, and I don't want to get a cat or rely on a hawk. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can prevent these pesky birds from attacking my new sleepers? Thanks for your help!

I think the wood might be attracting insects, which is what the birds are actually after. If the timber is warm, that might be why they’re interested!
You might want to figure out why the birds are pecking at your sleepers. Are they confused woodpeckers, or could there be something like woodworms that they’re after? It's worth checking out!
If you're worried about the damage, I've found that shiny, metallic things can help. You can make shiny decorations using foil curtains or even old CDs to hang around your garden. They reflect light and move in the wind, which usually keeps the birds away! Plus, if you want to attract them elsewhere, consider putting out a bird feeder or bath to divert their attention.

That’s a great idea! I’ve seen it work before. Just make sure the shiny things are placed near the sleepers for the best effect!
