Help! Is My Pickle Plant Going to Survive After Sitting in Water for 30 Hours?

I have a pickle plant that I accidentally left sitting in a clean butter tub filled with water for about 30 hours while house-sitting. I just got back and realized my mistake! I took the plant out and set it on a rack to drain, but I'm worried about whether it will survive after being in water for so long. Any advice on what I should do?

Try placing the pot on paper towels to aid in wicking out the excess water. Just switch out the towels when they get soaked, and keep repeating until the soil is drier. It should help!

Where I live, we have a similar climate to South Africa, where pickle plants originate. They can handle a few days of being wet as long as they don't stay soggy for too long. It sounds like as long as you manage to dry it out soon, it should be fine!

Thanks for the reassurance! I've put it on paper towels to help absorb the moisture. I need to start setting a timer for when I soak my plants!

If the soil was bone dry before this happened, you might be in the clear. I recommend unpotting the plant to check for any rot and letting the roots dry out a bit before repotting, just to be safe.

If you can, add a fan to blow air over the plant to assist in drying it out quicker. Keeping the air warm and dry will really help too! These plants are surprisingly resilient, so hopefully, it’ll be okay!

I really doubt it will die from that! While pickle plants prefer drier conditions, they can handle a good drink now and then. Just give it some time and don't panic too much!

Thank you! That gives me some hope!
