I was putting the kids to bed when our carbon monoxide detector went off, indicating a low level of CO. I quickly moved the kids out of the room and opened windows to ventilate the space. Our garage is right below two of the bedrooms, but only one room showed signs of carbon monoxide according to the monitor. I always turn off my car immediately after parking because I'm concerned about this. Now, it's been about 20 minutes since we left that room; how long does it typically take for it to be safe to go back in? I appreciate any advice for handling this now and in the future.

It's usually safe to air out a room pretty quickly, often within minutes. Just to be sure, if you think the carbon monoxide came from your car or any other source, it might be a good idea to call the fire department for a walkthrough. They can help ease your mind by checking the levels.

Thank you, that’s reassuring to know! I believe the monitor shows no CO in the room now, but as a first-time homeowner, it's all a bit overwhelming. I think I’ll also check the furnace room just to be safe.
