Hey everyone! I've got dark brown fake wood floors on the main level of my house, and I really can't stand them. They show every little bit of dirt, and I'm always cleaning. Plus, they've taken quite a beating over time! I've thought about replacing them with a lighter color, but the quotes I've received are just way out of my budget. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do myself to improve the situation. I heard that sanding and painting them could be an option. Has anyone tried this before?

It really depends on what your fake wood is made of! If it’s laminate, you might be limited in your options. Some laminates can be sanded a bit and refinished, but others can't. Knowing what you have is a good first step. If you’re comfortable with tools, you could even think about installing new floors yourself; laminate and luxury vinyl plank (LVP) aren’t too tricky!
Painting could be a viable option! Just make sure to use primer and a good topcoat for durability. Also, have you considered peel and stick tiles? They can be a great way to add some flair without breaking the bank!
You might want to try painting the floors! It’s a DIY project that can really change the look. Just make sure you pick the right products for your flooring type to ensure it lasts.

Yeah, definitely check the material first! You wouldn’t want to mess things up more.
