How to Fix a Stuck Blade in My Hackzall Fuel Chuck?

Asked By CraftyNinja99 On

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a stuck blade in my Hackzall Fuel chuck. I can turn the chuck fully, and it feels like it wants to move, but I just can't get the blade to come out. I was thinking about using some pliers or channel locks, but the guard is in the way. Has anyone had success with this? Any tips or tricks on what I might do to get it out?

Here’s a method that worked for me: First, cut the blade off just above the chuck. Next, grab a small container—like a cut soda bottle—and fill it with some white vinegar. Stand the tool upright with the chuck and guard in the vinegar for a night. Make sure only the chuck and guard get wet. After that, you should be able to twist it and pull the blade out. Don't forget to dry and lubricate the chuck really well afterward. I had a similar issue after mine got wet, and this fixed it!

Sounds like it's a common issue! Mine probably got wet too since I work in plumbing. Right now, I’ve got it soaked with PB Blaster, but if that fails, I’ll definitely give your method a shot.

Just a tip: use *white* vinegar for this! It won't leave residue like other types. Also, be cautious about vinegar smell; it can attract fruit flies if you're not careful.

Just spray the chuck with WD-40. Dust can really mess things up, and it should help loosen it up pretty fast.

Tried that already, so I’m giving PB Blaster a go next. Fingers crossed!

Another option is to spray some lubricant in there, and use pliers to gently push and pull the chuck. Sometimes the pin is stuck in the blade, so ensure you've twisted it all the way to the correct position. I run into this issue a lot after demoing drywall!
