Best Plants for a Bird and Pollinator Friendly Garden

I'm looking to create a beautiful flower bed that attracts pollinators and provides seeds for the birds. So far, I'm planning to plant sunflowers, flax, seed poppy, and amaranth. What other plants can I add that are friendly to pollinators and can self-seed or are perennials? The garden will be located at the edge of my mulberry trees since they're already a favorite for the birds. I have areas with full sun as well as some with partial or full shade, and the summers can get pretty hot and dry here, with our zone 6 winters. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you're in Zone 7, you might want to consider adding Calendula and Borage. They're not only beautiful but also self-seeding and great for pollinators. Plus, Oregano is a fabulous perennial that attracts pollinators. Don't forget about Mullein and Elecampane; they can really add variety to your garden!

Oregano is such a good pick! And those flowers are just lovely.

Why not try Purple Coneflowers and some Rudbeckia varieties? They’re perfect for getting those pollinators visiting your garden and they look amazing too!

I usually grab mixed seeds from Botanical Interests. They have some awesome blends specifically for bees, butterflies, and even ones for seed-eating birds. It's a great way to ensure you're helping multiple types of wildlife!

Mixed seeds are an awesome idea! I'll have to check those out.
