Help! My Plants Are Dying from the Heat!

Hey everyone! I'm dealing with a serious heatwave in my apartment where it's already over 28°C (82°F) and I don't have AC. I usually get a lot of natural light through my two big windows, but the intense heat is starting to take a toll on my plants. Even with blinds on, the sun is just too harsh, and I had to close them completely a few days ago. My plants are suffering; many are wilting, and my cuttings sitting in water are turning yellow and crispy. Have any of you faced something similar? What can I do to save my plants?

I feel you! My room can hit 35°C but my plants are doing okay. It sounds like you might be dealing with low humidity, especially if you’re in a dry area. I live in a tropical climate where it's hot and humid, so maybe that's why my plants are hanging in there.

Oh wow, that’s interesting! My humidity is around 55%, do you think that’s too low for my plants?

Yeah, it could definitely be a factor. Plants thrive in humidity, so you might want to think about ways to increase it!

It’s crucial to remove any totally wilted plants to prevent mold or pests from spreading in your space. Heat makes water evaporate fast, which can lead to drought if you wait too long to water, or root rot if you overdo it, especially in stuffy conditions. I learned that the hard way with my Boston fern! In high heat, I spray the area around the plants to cool them down and I try to avoid watering during peak sun hours. Also, stick to room temperature water to help avoid shocking the roots. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice! I've taken a couple of my precious plants to my mom's place since she has AC, lol. I’m not used to this heat either; I’m from the north where it’s usually way cooler!
