Which is Better: M12 Surge or M12 Fuel for Home DIY and Car Work?

Hey everyone! I'm diving into the M12 tool line and I've come across two options: an M12 Surge along with a ratchet for $159 and a Fuel combo that comes with a free tool for $229. I mainly want these for home DIY projects and some minor work on my car. Can anyone share their thoughts on which one would be the better pick?

I have both and I've found that the Surge is better for quieter environments, like when I'm mounting cabinets or installing closets, since the Fuel can be pretty deafening. I only keep the Fuel in my van for when I really need that extra power. If you're mostly doing home projects, I'd lean towards the Surge. It handles about 95% of the tasks you'd need an impact driver for.

That makes sense! I'm just starting out with these tools, so quieter definitely sounds better for me.

The Surge is a lot quieter and perfect for precision work, but it's not as powerful. If you're working indoors, it's a real lifesaver—you can use it without waking anyone up. The Fuel, on the other hand, packs more power but it's definitely louder, so just keep that in mind if you're doing quiet tasks at home.

If you’re focused on home use, the Surge is a solid choice. For car jobs where you need to break loose nuts, though, it might not cut it. If you’re doing mostly DIY, I’d suggest going with the Surge, but for heavier car work, you might want to consider the Fuel. It really depends on your primary tasks.
