Is My 24-Year-Old HVAC System Still Reliable?

Hey everyone! While doing some home repairs, I took a closer look at my HVAC system and realized it's 24 years old! I had a friend who's a tech come over to replace a part, and he mentioned the system looks pretty good overall. I'm surprised by the age, but it cools my condo just fine, even keeps it warm when I need it. I'm in a condo development where many units seem to have the same vintage Goodman system dating back to the 2001 conversion. Besides starting to save for a new unit, what should I do? I'm in Vegas, and I've spotted several units of the same model still in operation. Any advice from folks with older systems?

You've done well to keep it going this long! Just continue with regular maintenance and change your filters frequently. If it's still cooling and heating effectively, there’s no rush to replace it. And definitely start saving a bit for a future upgrade, just in case!

Exactly! I’d say as long as it’s functioning well, ride it out and enjoy it. Spending on upkeep is definitely more economical than rushing into a new system.

Sounds like you're already doing things right with maintenance! I recently had a system that was 30 years old before it finally quit on me. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Just keep up with the maintenance and don’t let a technician push you into early replacement—those sales tactics can be aggressive.

Preach! I had a similar experience; my unit was still running strong at 31 years old until it finally gave out. I wish I had just stuck with maintenance instead of worrying about replacing it too soon.

It's quite impressive how these older units can last! Some people I know have 30+ year systems that are still operational. Regular maintenance is key, so keep it cleaned and running efficiently for as long as you can! Just prepare for the day it needs replacing—start saving now for a smoother transition when it happens!
