DIY Flagpole Ideas for Tailgating Without Breaking the Bank

Hey everyone! I'm gearing up for a big tailgate party in a couple of weeks at a baseball game, and I'm thinking about putting up one of those massive 20-foot flagpoles that you see at sporting events, complete with the team's flag. However, I really don't want to fork out over $120 for one from Amazon. Can anyone share tips or suggestions on what kind of pipe or pole I could use to make my own? Any help would be super appreciated! Thanks!

How about using a team-themed kite instead? If it's breezy, it could be a fun, safer alternative to a heavy flagpole. Plus, it still shows your team spirit!

Seriously, don't risk attaching a massive pole to your car; you can't drive with a 20-footer. Stick to something more manageable, like a 6 to 8-foot pole. You don't want to make driving dangerous for yourself or others. Remember, safety first!

Just to clarify, this pole will only be up when we’re parked for grilling at the tailgate, not while driving.

Honestly, if you try to make your own pole, by the time you get all the materials and figure out a safe way to construct it, you might end up spending almost as much as if you'd just bought one. I mean, a 20-foot pole is a lot taller than it sounds, and you really don’t want anything collapsing on you. If you want to save some trouble, I'd recommend making a smaller 9 or 12-foot pole instead. You could use heavy-duty conduit and maybe some dowels and duct tape for joins. Just be careful with that height limit.

I appreciate the advice! I’ll definitely consider the 12ft option now. Thanks for pointing that out!
