I'm in the process of remodeling my basement to create a home theater, but there's an HVAC supply trunk running under the joists right where I want to set up the space. I plan to tear down the drop ceiling, so everything will be exposed. I'm wondering if it's possible for a professional HVAC company to reroute the main trunks 10 feet over to another part of the basement. If this is feasible, will it dramatically change how the HVAC system operates, or should it work just fine if done by skilled professionals? I'm really hoping this isn't a terrible idea...

As long as the work is done right, relocating it shouldn't mess with how your HVAC system works. Be prepared to spend a good amount, though—it could get pricey since you're moving some significant ducts!
The easiness of the job really depends on your setup. Without seeing the area, it's hard to say how tough it'll be. But since you'll have everything exposed, it definitely raises your chances for success!
It's best to ask several contractors for quotes since they'll check out the actual setup and give you the best advice. It's totally possible to reroute the ducts, but consider whether the cost is worth it for you. Don't stress too much; this isn't a crazy idea, but it might not be straightforward either.
