Hey everyone, I really need some advice! I'm 16 and home alone since my mom is out of town until Monday, and my toilet has been acting up for a couple of days now. It started on Sunday, July 13th. I thought it was just clogged at first, but things have only gotten worse. The first time I flushed, it was fine, but the second flush didn't go down, and I ended up waiting for a while until it finally did. I tried using a plunger afterwards, but the water just kept rising. Now it's overflowing constantly, and I've been scooping water out to prevent any damage to the floor. I've turned off the water valve completely, but the toilet keeps filling up with water anyway! I'm really stressed out and would appreciate any tips on what I can do about this without involving a plumber until my mom is back. Thanks!

You're doing great given the situation. Just hang tight and try to avoid using any water in your house completely. It can be tough, but leaning on your neighbors for moral support or even some physical help might be a good idea. When your mom gets back, she’ll definitely have to call in a plumber for a proper fix. You got this!
Right? Not sure about the plumbers today but you might be right to wait for your mom. She's definitely best to be there for that. Hang in there!
First things first, check the water valve to ensure it’s turned off all the way. Sometimes with older valves, they need extra turns. Also, you mentioned the toilet is on the lowest floor; that could mean accumulated water is backing up from somewhere else. If there's another bathroom in the house, don’t use it either. If you really can't figure it out, consider asking a neighbor or trusted adult to help you until your mom returns.
Totally agree! A lot of times the valves can be tricky when they get old, so it could be stuck in the middle. And it’s great that you’re reaching out for help!
Yeah, keeping a neighbor informed and asking for help might ease your situation. You're doing well by taking proactive steps!
It sounds like you might be dealing with a sewer backup, especially if the toilet is the lowest point in your house. Make sure you completely shut off any water usage in the house and avoid flushing any other toilets or running sinks, as that can worsen the situation. If it’s a clog in your main sewer line, using water elsewhere can cause water to back up into your toilet.
Totally! I had a similar issue last year; even when I turned the valve off, the water was still rising. It turned out we had a blockage in our sewer line, which caused the backup. Just be sure not to use any water in the house until a plumber can check it out.
Exactly, you might want to wait and see if the water stops rising by completely avoiding any water usage. If it keeps happening, you should definitely contact a plumber.

So true! And honestly, you're handling this like a champ! If the water keeps rising, just focus on scooping it out to prevent damage until you get professional help.
