How Can I Install Brackets for My AC Units After They’ve Been Set Up?

I just found out from my Homeowners Association (HoA) that we need to have proper brackets supporting our window AC units, which I think is a smart safety measure. The problem is I just moved in and the units I inherited don't have any brackets. I've got only three weeks to figure this out! Is it possible to install the brackets without taking the AC units down, or will I need to uninstall and then reinstall them? Just so you know, the building is brick and the units are placed about three inches above a solid concrete sill.

Were the AC units already installed when you bought the place? If so, the seller should have disclosed that and taken care of proper installation before you closed on the house. You can find AC brackets at any local hardware store or HVAC supplier, so just pop in there to grab what you need!

Yeah, they were there when I purchased. I didn’t even know they weren’t properly secured until I got the notice. It’s my first time dealing with window units, so it’s a bit overwhelming!

It sounds like you're looking for something like these brackets, which don’t require any drilling or permanent changes to your setup. You can find them easily online—just make sure to follow the instructions well. However, some setups may still need a bit of drilling to secure everything right.

Actually, be careful with those! Some of those brackets do require drilling into the window frame for installation. Just make sure the supports are placed right under the center of gravity of your AC unit for safety.
