How Can I Integrate Solar Power with My RV Propane Generator?

I'm looking to set up a solar power system for my RV, but I also want to keep using my propane generator for when I need extra power, like for the AC. I'm not completely sure how to connect everything together, specifically how to hook up my inverter to allow for smooth operation of both solar and generator power. I currently have a Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power 9100 Series Converter/Charger that I believe converts shore power to 12V. Can anyone offer guidance on how to make this work? I'm considering using 2-3 solar panels just to charge the batteries and power some fans at night, plus I'm open to any equipment suggestions!

For your purpose, sticking with 12V equipment is a wise choice. Look into some 12V marine fans or USB-powered fans to keep things simple. This approach lets your solar serve as a battery charger without needing an inverter, which saves power. Plus, you can have multiple chargers for different power sources like shore or generator.

To connect everything seamlessly, you can use an inverter that supports multiple power sources. This way, it can automatically switch between solar power and your generator depending on what's available. Just make sure your inverter is compatible with the setup you have in mind!

Yeah, having an inverter that can handle that switching makes life so much easier! Just check the specs to ensure it fits your needs.

That's a smart plan! Using solar for your essential devices while leaning on the generator for high-demand equipment like your AC is a great hybrid setup. You'll want to add a transfer switch to help with the integration—this allows you to switch between power sources without fuss.

Thanks for the advice! A transfer switch sounds like a solid idea to keep everything running smoothly.
