Hey everyone, I've got a bit of a plant-related dilemma. I asked one of my plant friends for help with a specific plant because I'm still getting the hang of things and wasn't sure about pruning. He gave me some great advice and offered to prune it for me, which I was grateful for, as I'm not very experienced. However, after he finished, I noticed he took the cuttings and put them in a vase to propagate. I didn't speak up at the time because I appreciated his help, but I feel a bit uneasy about it. Is this common behavior in the plant community? Should he have asked for permission before taking the cuttings?

You told him he could prune, so technically, he had your permission for that part. I guess taking the cuttings was just a natural follow-up for him? It’s always a good idea to communicate about these things, but it doesn't sound like he was trying to be sneaky.
Honestly, it's a mixed bag. Some people do take cuttings without asking, but it’s good practice to ask first. If you were planning to just throw away the trimmings, it’s less of a big deal, but communication definitely matters in these situations!
Sounds like he was just being helpful! When I prune, I usually keep the cuttings to propagate and share too. It might not have occurred to him to ask, especially if he thought you had no use for the cuttings. It could just be his way of sharing the plant love.
