Hey everyone! I'm looking for recommendations on the most compact Milwaukee impact tool that can handle emergency lug nut removals—like for roadside tire changes. Do you think a brushless M12 model, such as the M12 Fuel stubby or surge, would do the job? Or should I invest in an M18 mid-torque or high-torque instead? I want to keep the size and weight down since it will be stored in my car for emergencies, but I also need enough power to safely get those lug nuts off. Real-world experiences would be super helpful! Thanks!

If it’s a compact tool you need, the M12 stubby is the way to go for passenger cars or crossovers like the RAV4. I keep an M18 mid-torque in my emergency kit just in case, but the M12 should suit your needs just fine!
Good to hear! I think the M12 can handle most typical situations.
I wouldn't rely solely on a Milwaukee impact tool for emergencies. Leaving a battery in the car might end up with a dead battery when you really need it. It’s smarter to pack a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar with a socket that fits your lug nuts. They'll take off stubborn lug nuts without the risk of a jammed socket. Plus, it doesn’t rely on a battery, so you’ll always be prepared!
Honestly, a breaker bar is a classic for a reason. Can't go wrong with that!
That's a really good point. I think I'll do a combo of both—impact tool for light work and a breaker bar for those stubborn ones.
Honestly, if you're just looking for something compact, the M12 stubby is a solid choice! I’ve heard from mechanics that it handles lug nuts really well and hasn't failed them yet. But keep in mind, it's best to use a good battery, like a 5.0 High Output one, to ensure it works efficiently when you need it. Just make sure to check the lug nut torque beforehand. If they're over-torqued or rusted, you might run into issues. Also, a breaker bar is a great backup option, just in case!
Great to know! I might just go with the M12 stubby then.
Totally agree! I always keep a breaker bar handy just in case. Better safe than sorry!

Sweet, thanks for the info! I drive a RAV4 too!
