Thinking of Starting a Garden Swap/Giveaway Group—What Are Your Thoughts?

Hey everyone! I'm considering starting a seed, plant, and veggie giveaway or swap group in my area since I've noticed there aren't any around. I'd love to hear your experiences with these kinds of groups or events—do they work well? I'm in zone 5b, by the way. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you thought about checking your public library for a seed library? Mine has one, and it’s a fantastic resource for swapping seeds and plants!

I had no idea! I’ll definitely look into it, thanks for the tip!

You might want to check out local buy nothing groups or community pages on Facebook. While I don’t have a dedicated gardening group here, people often share gardening items in those buy nothing groups. They seem to be pretty effective for swaps!

I’ve given away plants through our buy nothing group too! But I don’t think swaps are technically allowed. That’s why I want to start a separate group to organize events, something more wide-ranging than just my town.

There's a freebee market here every Saturday that allows folks to share plants and extra veggies. They also host costume swap days and themed events as fall approaches! It’s run by volunteers and promoted mainly via a Facebook group, which helps with turnout.

That’s exactly the kind of thing I’d love to start! Do you know if it draws a good crowd?

A costume swap sounds like a fun idea too!
