How Can I Dog-Proof a Lever Door Handle?

Hey everyone! We're trying to figure out how to dog-proof a lever handle on a door that leads to our three-season porch. Our sneaky dog has learned how to open the door by using the lever, and while we can keep it locked with the deadbolt, that makes it tricky for us to go in and out. We'd like to keep the lever handle but need a way to stop the dog from being able to open it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks!

If your door opens by lifting the handle, maybe you could put something just below the handle to block your dog from pushing it down. That way, you can lift it to open it but your dog can't reach. Just a thought!

OMG. Duh. Thank you so much! It’s funny how we get stuck in one way of thinking sometimes. My wife and I really appreciate it, even if our dog doesn’t! ?

Check out this [dog-proof lever lock](https://amzn.to/4lLxujc) I found online! It might be just what you need to keep your dog from opening the door while still allowing you to use it easily. Glad to hear it helped!

It does! Now that I realize the handle also flips up, not just down. Appreciate it a ton!
