Did I Get a Roach from My Neighbors? Can an Exterminator Help?

I recently spotted a pretty large roach in our new row-house before moving in or starting renovations. I'm curious if it might have come from a neighboring home since I don't typically see roaches around here. I've only encountered one or two in my entire life, so it feels like it might have come in through the walls. Can an exterminator help get rid of these potential pests and keep them from coming back? I'd love to hear from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation!

If your community has a HOA, they might have a way to force treatment in multiple units. Otherwise, you’ll just be dealing with the leftovers from a bigger problem in the area. Definitely start by treating your place, but if they keep coming back, you might want to check with the HOA about getting a professional for the whole building.

The exterminator should be able to help, but keep in mind that it's not an instant fix. It will take some time to fully deal with the problem.

You definitely need to get your house treated for roaches, regardless of where they came from. It might only take a visit or two from the exterminator, but it could also mean they need to come back every couple of months to keep them at bay.

It's important to note that large roaches often come from outside rather than being bred inside. An exterminator can definitely help, but it’s pretty common to have a few sneaking in during warm months, especially if you're in a southern area.

Most exterminators will use gel bait, which roaches eat and take back to their nests, ultimately killing them off. Since they might not have direct access to the source of the problem, they can tackle it this way. It's probably a good idea to introduce yourself to your neighbors and ask if they've seen any roaches, too—this might help in determining the full extent of the infestation.

That makes sense! Communicating with neighbors could help get a clearer picture.
