I'm trying to build a temporary fence for my dog since he has outgrown his metal pen. I'm using wood in my front yard, which is typically dry but it's been rainy lately. I'm considering sealing the wood to protect it from moisture, but I'm worried about my pup licking or chewing on it. Are there any safe sealants available, or ways to protect the wood without harmful residues? Also, I need something that dries quickly because my dog has already jumped the pen, so I need this done soon!

If you're using good outdoor wood like cedar, you might want to skip the sealant and leave it unfinished. If you really need a sealant, a penetrating oil stain is a great option since it won't create a film that your dog could potentially ingest. Just be sure to check it's pet-safe before applying!
Just get it built already! I mean, it sounds like you’re in a hurry, so maybe just go with the basics and get something up fast. You can always work on refinements later.
