I just purchased the DXAEC100 model, which is supposed to work as a charger and an engine start. However, I'm a bit confused after reading the manual. It states I need to plug it into an AC outlet to activate the engine start feature and that my battery must be fully charged to use it. So I'm wondering, if my battery's already full, why would I need to jump-start it? If I'm in a breakdown situation where my battery is dead, I likely won't have access to an AC power source. Can someone clarify how useful this charger really is in emergencies?

Your charger is primarily a battery maintainer, not designed for emergency boosts. If it needs to be plugged in to provide even a short charge, it's not what you want for roadside assistance. It’s really meant to keep batteries healthy when you have time to get to a power source. If you want something portable, consider the DXAEPS14 for jump-starting. It could save you some trouble out there!
I guess I should have asked first like you did; it's such an easy mistake to make.
It sounds like you bought a fancy battery maintainer more than a jump-start tool. These are great for keeping batteries charged in things like boats or lawnmowers, but if you’re looking for something to jump-start your car on the go, that's not it. You need a proper jump starter instead.
Totally agree! You might want to check out models like the DXAELJ16 or DXAELJ25. They’re better suited for that.
Just a heads-up, I saw that my maintainer flipped to 'Recondition' mode when I tried charging my battery. So even if it's not what you wanted, it might still be useful as a maintenance tool.
Definitely don’t go for a DeWalt branded jumper pack! I recommend the NOCO Genius Boost. The GB40 has a solid 1,000 amps of peak power and is small enough to fit under your seat. I haven't had any issues after a year of keeping it in my truck, and it's only about $100 online or at any major store.
The Boost X 12V is great too, but it's on the pricier side at around $200. Just be cautious if you've already spent on the DXAEC100!
You'll definitely want to avoid making the same purchase mistake I did!

Okay, I see now! I should’ve paid more attention to that detail when I bought it. Lesson learned!
